dear Naima, 10mo old

my darling bay girl,
today you're 10 months young. you took your first steps today. it was beautiful to see you discover something new yet again and i'm so very thankful i was here to witness it.
you were a few steps away from your daddy and me and you just put one foot in front of the other. you smiled and laughed as you took your determined steps. and, yes, each step was careful and thought out and timid but nonetheless they were made. and as you took your tiny steps, making it closer to us, your daddy and i squealed with excitement. you'd think you were competing in a sports event and it was the finals and you were making the winning shot. it was a crazy loud excitement in here and all for some tiny first steps.
but i can assure you, whether you like it or not, this is how it's going to be. no matter how embarassing it will be for you, you will always have your crazy in-love parents cheering you on the sidelines living the excitement and the success with you and through you.
your getting bigger and bigger and i can't help but to get just a little sad about that. i know i say it over and over again but i don't want you to grow too fast on me. i want to keep in my arms, a tiny baby, for as long as i can...but i know i can't. but don't put it passed me to carry you in my lap and rock you to sleep when you're a teenager. i'm your mommy no matter at what age!
