first sickness

Naima caugh a cold. it's her first time being sick and we both didn't take it so well.
sunday night she started with a bit of a runny nose and by tusday night it was full on booger central with an ugly cough. i was supposed to report back to work on wednesday but i just couldn't leave my baby girl. so, i called in to work. she had a horrible time sleeping. she couldn't breath with all the boogers and then she'd cough some ugly flem every so often. all of that would frustrate her and she would wake up screaming. i couldn't do a damn thing to help her either. i would just sit and rock her. she was finally able to sleep for a long time sitting upright on the rocking chair with me. it was a horrible time.
then we took her to the doctor wednesday morning and found out she had an ear infection. oh great. not only did she have to deal with the boogers and the congestion but also an ear infection. so, i called in to work for thursday as well. every once and a while she would suddenly wake up and just scream holding her little head. i could just imagine the pulsating pain she was going through.
she was not herself at all. usually a happy baby, all smiles, crawling all over the house and getting into all kinds of mischief, she was nothing like that. she just wanted to be held. she would doze in and out of sleep or just lay on the couch just staring at nothing. it was horrible seeing her like that. i would her and cry just praying that all of this would pass quick.
i know she's bound to get sick and colds and flus are part of the package but i can't stand it. i cried right along with her and all abel could do was hold both me and her. it was a horrible past two days and none we want to relive any time soon.
and then to add to the stress, we had decided to move her out of our bedroom and into her own room the day before she got sick. and i was not about to leave my baby girl in her room all by herself when she had crusty boogers covering her little nose. so, i've been sleeping in her room with her for the past 3 nights. and even though she's a whole lot better now, i still can't feel leave her in her room by herself. her room seems miles away from ours. my mom and abel keep saying it's for the best....that it'll be harder for her later when she gets older...that she needs to get accustomed to her own room now...and i understand all of that but i still can't seem to be "okay" with it. i did it. i allowed for her crib to be taken out of our room but that doesn't mean i like it. but tonight i will try to sleep in our room...in my own bed...with my husband...just a couple of steps down a hallway from my baby girl. no promises...all i can do is try...
but now she's all herself again. she's my sweet happy little princess again. she's all smiles and happy laughs out loud.
she's her inquisitive self...getting into everything and anything. crawling all over the house and right up to the dog making sure to annoy her all day long.
she's also started to walk. it's a shaky, unsure, almost drunk-like walk but it's still something of a walk. it amazes me every time i see her taking off across the room. she grabs a hold of her little lawnmower and off she goes. she aims right for the dog and screams with laughter when she finally reaches her and practically runs over her. and when we catch her standing all by herself she realizes she's doing it all by herself and lets herself fall on her butt. if no one is paying attention to her and she's busy concentrating on something else she can stand all by herself. but the minute she realizes what she's doing she comes down. it's pretty cute and amazing. amazing that we have a baby...finally...crawling, walking, standing, laughing, screaming...with us...amazing.
