dear Niama, 7mo old

you're 7mo now and i can't believe how fast time is passing us by, nor do i like it. it is interesting seeing you develop and grow and discover the world around you, but i'm still wishing you were my itty-bitty baby.
daddy and i have decided you're a funny baby. not ha-ha funny but a little peculiar funny. let me explain. when you were born we had your crib next to a radio ready to play several different lullabys. most babies like those sweet soothing songs. not you.
one day while in the car far from home, strapped in your car seat, you started to freak out. you were tired and wanted to take a nap and wanted out NOW. you were very frustrated and you clearly let us know it. daddy says he thought the music would please you but i say he was trying to drown out your shrieking screams. daddy turned up the volume enough to feel the bass in our seats. you instatnly stoopped crying. it was like magic. you looked at me in amazement and after a short while fell fast asleep. it was amazing. instead of a soft baby's lullaby the synthesizing sounds of the 80's music at a defenning volume lulled you to sleep.
ever since then your nap & night time routine is to play loud jamming music as i rock you to sleep. we have a radio in every room and you like all kinds of music. abuelita puts you to sleep with salsa and merengue. daddy tried to do it with tupac until i put a stop to it so now he sticks with the 80's. and i of course turn up the spanish rock. it's the funniest thing ever but hey it works!
we've also noticed you getting a lot more demanding and with a diva-like attitude to go with it. if you don't get your way quick you make a growling scream clearly expressing your dislike or disapproval. i love you, baby girl, but let me tell you i do not like that at all! and even though i know i'm probably going to be the push-over and your daddy the heavy, that little temper and impatient attitude will change. at least i hope...daddy will see to it.
at about 6mo you started reving up to crawling. you would get on all fours and rock back and forth and then fall flat on your stomach. it was too cute but it got you nowhere. shortly after that though you were finally taking off. you now crawl all over the place. under the kitchen table was one of your favorite destination get-aways until you discovered the doggy door. if we'd let you, you'd crawl right through it. thank goodness you haven't figured out the stairs.
and with you now crawling, akasha's worst nightmare is now a reality. you'll be sitting on the floor fine with your toys all around you but the minute you spot akasha your interest has been peeked and you're out to get her. leaving your toys behind you, you crawl over to the sleeping dog. fearlessly, you'll crawl right up to her and slap her hind leg and grab at her tail to take a bite out of it. and even though she already snapped at you once, it didn't phase you at all. you're still out to terrorize the poor dog!
you're first birthday is 5mo away and, yes, i've already started to plan it all out. i can't wait to actually celebrate again. it's been so long since i've celebrated anything and i'm excited. both daddy and i are excited. but before your birthday is christmas and we're triple exciteda about that. to see christmas as a happy time again is nice but to experience the season's love and joy with a baby is awsome! we love you so very, baby girl. thank you for bringing the smiles back to us again...
